1980s trucks are gaining momentum in the collector spotlight. Following up on the clean 1988 Dodge pickup recently shared, this is another truck from the same era that looks equally well-preserved.
The Pick of the Day is a 1989 Ford F-150 4×4 listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Raymond, New Hampshire. (Click the link to view the listing)
This well-kept half-ton truck comes from Ford, which launched its eighth generation of F-Series pickup trucks beginning in model year 1987. The update brought a redesign with a more aerodynamic appearance and composite headlamps, although the chassis remained largely a carry-over.
"West Virginia truck, 63,475 original miles," the listing states. "Must be seen."
The seller goes on to itemize a long list of upgrades and enhancements that have been completed. Mechanically, the truck has replacement parts for the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, ball joints, bearings, wheel seals, air filter, distributor cap, universal joints, EGR valve, brakes and rotors, shocks, springs, O2 sensor, and front axle shaft. Wow!
The fluids have also been changed, and the seller states that the transmission shifts well. We doubt this truck will see much off-road use with as nice as it looks, but grip is available when needed from Warn locking hubs up front, and all four corners are shod in meaty BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A raised-white letter tires on aluminum wheels. Momentum is provided by a fuel-injected 4.9-liter inline-six that was factory rated at 145 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.
No restoration or custom build is complete without the right cosmetic treatment, and this F-Series received stainless-steel nerf bars (not pictured in all photos), a bug deflector, window visors, a chrome exhaust extension, bed rails, and a tonneau cover to complete the look. The interior looks equally nice; it is done up in two-tone black and red, complete with Ford-branded floor mats.
We couldn't help but notice the photo of an F-Series pickup hanging on the wall in the garage, along with a matching red Mustang parked alongside the truck. This pickup is definitely enthusiast-owned! That should add to the peace of mind for any interested buyer.
"Square body trucks like this are getting harder and harder to find," the seller concludes.
The seller is asking $26,500 or best offer for this clean F-150.
